In New York there are two levels of appellate courts:
Appeals from the Family Court and the Supreme Court are brought to the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court. Here, a panel of judges will review the record on appeal and all briefs prepared for your case. They will also listen to your lawyer's oral argument, then render a decision which can reverse, revise, remand or affirm the original decision of the judge in the court below.

The Court of Appeals is the highest state court. Decisions from the appellate division can be reviewed by the Court of Appeals.
