Presenting Your Appeal in Upstate New York
If you feel there was an error made in a decision at the trial court level, you have recourse: you can appeal that decision to a panel of judges.
In New York there are two levels of appellate courts:
Appeals from the Family Court and the Supreme Court are brought to the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court. Here, a panel of judges will review the record on appeal and all briefs prepared for your case. They will also listen to your lawyer's oral argument, then render a decision which can reverse, revise, remand or affirm the original decision of the judge in the court below.
